Possible Causes

Shorted temperature sensor, Melted sensor insulation contacting metal cabinet, Moisture inside sensor connector at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the smoker and let it cool fully before inspection.

  • Inspect sensor wiring: Locate the temperature sensor lead where it enters the cabinet. Check for melted insulation or bare wires touching the metal liner.
  • Dry and clean connector: Remove the control panel or rear cover to access the sensor connector. If there is condensation or grease, dry thoroughly and clean with contact cleaner.
  • Measure resistance: Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the sensor. A very low resistance (near 0 ohms) or fluctuating reading indicates a shorted sensor.
  • Check for pinched cable: Ensure the sensor cable is not pinched by mounting screws or the cabinet edge.
  • Replace sensor: If readings are out of spec or shorted, remove the old sensor probe from inside the smoker and install a new Smokehouse temperature sensor probe, securing it in the same location.
