Possible Causes
Failed output contactor coil, open circuit in contactor control wiring, faulty contactor driver on the main control board, EV not requesting charge due to a pilot signal issue.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure power is off before touching any internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Check vehicle status: Confirm the EV is in Park and that doors are locked if required by the vehicle. Some cars will not accept a charge otherwise.
- Step 2 – Listen for contactor: When initiating a charge, listen for a distinct click from inside the BougeRV charger. No click suggests the contactor is not being energized.
- Step 3 – Inspect contactor coil wiring: With the power off, open the charger and verify that the contactor coil wires are firmly connected to the main control board.
- Step 4 – Coil resistance test: Disconnect the coil leads and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed coil; replace the BougeRV output contactor.
- Step 5 – Driver circuit: If the coil is good but never receives voltage when a charge is requested, the contactor driver on the main board may be faulty, and the board should be replaced.
