Possible Causes

Damaged encoder on FAAC motor, Broken encoder cable, Contaminated encoder disc, Incorrect encoder type configured

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and secure the door before working near the motor.

  • Locate encoder: On many FAAC operators, the encoder is mounted at the rear of the motor or integrated into the motor assembly with a small multi-core cable.
  • Inspect cable and connector: Check for cuts, pulled wires, or loose connectors at both the motor and control board ends. Reseat connectors.
  • Clean encoder area: If accessible, gently blow out dust from the encoder disc and sensor using dry air. Do not use solvents.
  • Verify configuration: Ensure the FAAC control board is set for the correct encoder type and pulses per revolution as specified for your model.
  • Replace encoder or motor assembly: If E14 persists and the encoder LED on the board does not flicker when the motor is turned by hand, the encoder is likely defective and should be replaced.

Accurate encoder feedback is critical for safe force control; do not operate the opener with a known encoder fault.
