Possible Causes
Spa in cold protection mode due to low water temperature, control set to economy or sleep mode, or a sensor reading very low temperature and delaying heat.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the spa is filled before applying power. Running pumps without water can cause damage.
Understanding COL: On some Dream Maker Spas using Balboa/Gecko packs, COL indicates a cold condition where the system may prioritize freeze protection or delay normal heating.
- Check set temperature and mode: On the topside control, verify that the set temperature is above the current water temperature and that the mode is set to STANDARD or READY, not ECONOMY/SLEEP.
- Allow time to warm: If the spa has just been filled with cold water, it can take many hours to reach the set temperature. COL may display during this period.
- Verify pump operation: Ensure the circulation or low-speed pump is running when the heater icon is on. No flow will prevent heating.
- Check sensors: If COL persists even when water is warm, the temperature sensor may be reading incorrectly and should be tested and replaced if faulty.
