Possible Causes

Spa recently refilled with cold water, ambient temperature very low around the spa, temperature sensor reading significantly below the set point, circulation pump not running long enough to warm the sensor.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure GFCI protection is present and functioning. Cold water itself is not dangerous, but ice formation around equipment can be.

  • 1. Verify water temperature: Use a thermometer to confirm the actual water temperature. If the spa was just filled, COL is normal until the water warms.
  • 2. Allow spa to run: Keep the cover closed and allow the spa to circulate and heat. COL should clear automatically as the temperature rises.
  • 3. Check circulation: Confirm that the circulation pump is running and that there is flow at the heater return. If there is no flow, address pump or flow issues (see FLO error steps).
  • 4. Sensor check: If the displayed temperature is much lower than the actual temperature and COL persists, the temperature sensor may be out of calibration and should be tested or replaced.

If COL does not clear after several hours of operation with confirmed heating, contact a technician to evaluate the sensor and control pack.
