E3
Antarctic Star
Ice Full / Bin Level Sensor Fault
E3 error; the ice maker stops mid-cycle, often during ice release or harvest.

Possible Causes
Blocked infrared ice level sensor, failed mechanical ice-full switch, misaligned sensor bracket, defective level sensor wiring or control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning or adjusting sensors.
Steps:
- Empty the ice basket: Remove all ice from the storage bin to ensure the bin is not actually full.
- Identify the level sensor: Antarctic Star ice makers may use either an infrared (IR) optical sensor pair near the bin opening or a mechanical lever/float switch above the ice basket.
- Clean the sensor: For IR sensors, gently clean the emitter and receiver windows with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner. Any frost, mineral film, or dirt can cause false 'full' readings.
- Check alignment: Ensure the IR sender and receiver face each other directly and the brackets are not bent. Adjust the bracket so the beam passes over the top of an empty bin.
- Inspect mechanical switch: If your model uses a lever or float, move it by hand. It should move freely and click the microswitch. If it sticks, clean off ice buildup and debris.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not broken.
- Test operation: Plug the unit back in and start a cycle with the bin empty. If E3 persists, the level sensor or control board may need replacement.
