Possible Causes

Infrequent cleaning, Use of hard water, Warm storage conditions with water left in tank, Poor ventilation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves and avoid inhaling mold spores. Work in a well-ventilated area.

Steps:

  • Disassemble removable parts: Remove the ice basket, water tank, and any removable filters or covers.
  • Deep clean reservoir and tank: Scrub with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft brush. For mold, use a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented household bleach per liter of water, then rinse thoroughly until no odor remains.
  • Descale evaporator and lines: Use a food-safe descaler or vinegar solution to soak and clean the evaporator plate and water path. Rinse multiple times.
  • Dry thoroughly: Allow the unit to air dry with the lid open before reassembly.
  • Implement regular maintenance: Clean the unit at least monthly, or more often in warm climates or with heavy use.
