Possible Causes
Stuck water level float, mineral buildup on the water level sensor, broken float arm or switch, or disconnected or damaged water level sensor wiring.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker and turn off the water supply before working on the water system.
Steps:
- Access water reservoir: Remove the top cover or internal bin components to expose the water tank or sump where the float or level sensor is located.
- Inspect float movement: Gently move the float up and down. It should move freely without sticking. Clean any mineral deposits or slime using warm water and a mild ice machine cleaner.
- Check for damage: Look for cracks in the float, broken arms, or loose mounting brackets. Replace the float assembly if damaged.
- Electrical connections: Trace the wires from the float switch or electronic level sensor to the control board. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not pinched.
- Test the switch: With a multimeter, test the continuity of the float switch in both positions (up and down). Replace the switch if it does not change state.
- Reassemble and test: Refill the reservoir, restore power and water, and run a cycle to confirm the error is cleared.
Tip: Regular descaling of the water system helps prevent float and sensor issues.
