Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor (NTC), stuck heating relay on main control board, faulty electronic thermostat circuit, damaged wiring between sensor and control

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off power at the breaker. Allow the oven to cool fully before inspection.

  • Verify symptom: Use an oven thermometer to confirm that the actual temperature is much higher than the set temperature.
  • Check oven temperature sensor: Locate the sensor probe inside the cavity (usually at the rear or side wall). From the rear of the oven, disconnect the sensor connector. Measure resistance at room temperature; De Dietrich NTC sensors typically read around 1–1.1 kΩ at 20–25°C (check model-specific values). If reading is very low (near 0 Ω) or erratic, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect sensor wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the main control board for cuts, burns, or loose connectors. Reseat the plug on the control board.
  • Check for stuck relay: With power disconnected, visually inspect the main PCB for burnt spots near the heater relays. A relay stuck closed will keep elements powered. If suspected, the board should be replaced or professionally repaired.
  • Do not use the oven until the overheating issue is resolved, as it can be a fire hazard and may damage the cavity and insulation.
