Hotpoint Knob Shaft / Selector Mechanism Wear

Control knobs are very stiff or difficult to turn, clicking or grinding feel

Possible Causes

Grease or debris in knob shaft, Deformed knob, Worn selector switch detent, Heat damage to plastic components

Safety: Turn off power before removing knobs or panels.

Remove knobs: Pull the knobs straight off and clean the shafts and knob bores with a mild cleaner. Do not use excessive lubricant.
Inspect selector switch: Check for melted plastic or misalignment. Replace the selector switch if the shaft is damaged.
Replace knobs: If knobs are cracked or distorted, fit new Hotpoint knobs.
