Possible Causes
Manufacturing oils burning off, spilled food on elements, grease buildup on cavity surfaces, overheating wiring or insulation.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If smoke is heavy or smells electrical (acrid), switch off immediately and investigate. Ensure good ventilation.
- Initial burn-in: For new or recently repaired ovens, run empty at 220–250°C for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off residues.
- Clean cavity: Remove heavy grease and food deposits from the cavity and elements using an oven-safe cleaner (avoid spraying directly on elements).
- Inspect wiring: If the smell is electrical, remove the rear cover and check for discoloured or melted wires. Repair or replace damaged wiring and locate the overheating cause.
- Check door seal: Ensure smoke is not escaping excessively due to a failed seal.
