FLAME OUT
Memphis Grills
Loss of Combustion During Operation
Display shows FLAME OUT and grill cools down unexpectedly

Possible Causes
Pellet hopper empty or bridged, Excess ash in fire pot smothering flame, Weak combustion fan airflow, Incorrect startup or lid opening during ignition
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn the grill off and allow it to cool before cleaning the fire pot.
- Check fuel: Confirm the hopper has sufficient pellets and that they are feeding into the auger. Break up any pellet bridges and refill as needed.
- Clean fire pot: Remove grates and diffuser. Vacuum ash from the fire pot and surrounding area. Ensure all air holes in the fire pot are open.
- Verify fan operation: During startup, listen for the combustion fan. If airflow seems weak or absent, inspect and clean the fan as described in fan-related procedures. Replace the fan motor if it fails to run.
- Restart correctly: Follow Memphis startup instructions: lid closed during ignition, correct temperature setting, and adequate warm-up time. Avoid repeatedly opening the lid during the first 10–15 minutes.
- Observe flame: During a test run (with diffuser removed and extreme caution), you should see a stable flame in the fire pot after ignition. If the flame repeatedly dies out, check for wet pellets or air leaks around the fire pot.
- Service if persistent: If FLAME OUT continues after cleaning and verifying fuel and airflow, the controller’s combustion algorithm or temperature sensing may be faulty, requiring controller replacement.
