Possible Causes
Auger motor seized, Sheared auger shear pin or stripped coupler, Jammed auger tube, Loose auger motor connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and ensure there is no active fire before working on the auger.
- Step 1 – Listen for motor: During a startup or feed cycle, listen near the hopper for auger motor noise. A humming sound without rotation suggests a jam; no sound suggests a power or motor failure.
- Step 2 – Inspect coupler and shear pin: Access the auger motor under or behind the hopper. Check the coupler between the motor and auger shaft. Replace any broken shear pin or stripped coupler.
- Step 3 – Clear auger tube: If the motor runs but the auger does not turn, or if the auger is jammed, remove the motor and pull the auger from the tube. Clean out compacted pellets and debris.
- Step 4 – Replace motor if needed: If the auger spins freely by hand but the motor will not run, replace the Monument auger motor assembly.
