Possible Causes
A failed hot rod igniter, igniter not positioned correctly in the fire pot, excessive ash blocking igniter heat, or weak combustion fan airflow.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off and unplug the grill. Allow all pellets in the fire pot to cool before handling.
Steps:
- Clean Fire Pot: Remove all ash and pellets from the fire pot. Ensure the igniter opening is clear and unobstructed.
- Check Igniter Position: The igniter tip should protrude slightly into the fire pot or align with the igniter hole, as per Napoleon's design. Adjust mounting if it has backed out.
- Test Igniter: With the grill unplugged, disconnect the igniter and measure its resistance. Replace if open or out of specification.
- Verify Airflow: Confirm that the combustion fan runs during ignition. Poor airflow can prevent ignition even with a working igniter.
- Restart: After making corrections, run a new ignition cycle and observe for a flame within a few minutes.
