SPAO
Display shows SPAO; the heater does not respond to thermostat changes.
Ambient temperature sensor out of range.
SPAO2
Display shows SPAO2; the heater shuts down shortly after ignition.
Combustion air proving fault.
SPAO3
Display shows SPAO3; the heater will not ignite.
Air pressure switch stuck closed.
SPAO4
Display shows SPAO4; heater fan/inducer runs continuously without firing.
Stuck relay or control board fault.
SPCL
Display shows SPCL; heater will not fire when spa mode is selected.
Chlorine or chemical lockout.
SPERR
Display shows SPERR or generic ERROR; heater locked out.
General control fault / internal self-check failure.
SPF1
Heater will not ignite; display shows SPF1 shortly after a call for heat.
Flame Sensing Failure
SPF2
Heater lights briefly, then shuts down; display shows SPF2.
Flame Loss During Operation
SPF3
Multiple failed ignition attempts; display shows SPF3, and the heater locks out until power is cycled.
Ignition Lockout
SPFLO
Display shows SPFLO or FLO; heater will not fire even though the pump is running.
Insufficient water flow / flow switch open.
SPFZ
Display shows SPFZ; heater runs pump for freeze protection but will not heat.
Freeze protection mode active.
SPGAS
Display shows SPGAS; heater aborts ignition.
Gas supply fault.
SPH1
Heater will not start; display shows SPH1 immediately after a call for heat.
High Limit Switch Open
SPH2
Heater shuts down during operation; display shows SPH2.
Exhaust temperature over-limit.
SPHI
Display shows SPHI and the heater shuts down; water is very hot at the outlet.
Outlet water temperature high limit.
SPIGN
Display shows SPIGN; no ignition sound or spark.
Ignition circuit failure.
SPLO
Display shows SPLO; the heater will not start.
Low line voltage detected.
SPLOP
Display shows SPLOP; the heater will not fire.
Low water pressure / pump off interlock.
SPPS
Heater cycles on and off rapidly; the display intermittently shows SPPS.
Water pressure switch calibration fault.
SPREM
Display shows SPREM; heater not responding to remote or automation commands.
Remote communication fault.
SPROL
Display shows SPRL or SPR0L; heater shuts down with visible flame disturbance.
Flame rollout detected.
SPTS
Display shows SPTS; the heater will not start or overshoots the set temperature.
Water temperature sensor fault.
SPTSTAT
Display shows SPTSTAT or TSTAT; heater ignores thermostat setting.
