Possible Causes

Worn mechanical seal on Speck pump, Loose drain plug on pump housing, Cracked pump housing or volute, Poorly sealed threaded fittings on suction line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off power before touching the pump or plumbing.

Check simple leak points:

  • Drain plugs: Inspect the Speck pump housing drain plugs. Remove, wrap threads with PTFE tape if applicable, and reinstall snugly.
  • Threaded fittings: Examine threaded adapters on the suction side for drips when the pump is off. Reseal with PTFE tape or thread sealant if necessary.

Mechanical seal check:

  • If water drips from the underside of the motor where it meets the pump housing, the mechanical shaft seal is likely leaking air when running.
  • Remove the motor from the pump housing and replace the Speck mechanical seal set, ensuring correct orientation of ceramic and carbon faces.

After reassembly, prime the pump and test for stable operation without air bubbles.
