Possible Causes
Grease or food residue around knob shaft, Deformed knob, Worn gas valve spindle, Corroded switch shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burners and the oven. Close the gas supply if removing knobs and panels.
- Remove knobs: Pull the knobs straight off the shafts.
- Clean area: Wipe around the shafts with a cloth dampened with mild detergent. Do not allow liquid to run into the valve body.
- Inspect knobs: Check for cracks or deformation. Replace damaged knobs.
- Check valve operation: With the appliance off and cool, gently turn the valve shafts with pliers protected by a cloth. If very stiff, the valve may be worn or internally contaminated.
- Valve replacement: Gas valves should not be lubricated by the user. If stiffness persists, have a qualified gas technician replace the affected gas valve(s).
