Possible Causes

Failed cooling fan motor, blocked cooling vents, faulty fan relay on the EOC, wiring issue to the cooling fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Internal metal edges can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps to check:

  • Ventilation: Ensure the range has proper clearance and that the rear and top vents are not blocked by foil, pans, or wall coverings.
  • Fan operation: Start a bake cycle and listen for the cooling fan (usually located behind the control panel or at the rear of the oven). If F8 appears and no fan sound is heard, suspect the fan circuit.
  • Access fan: Remove the rear panel to locate the cooling fan motor. Check for obstructions (e.g., insulation, wiring) preventing the fan from turning.
  • Test fan motor: With power OFF, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a bad motor. If comfortable and safe, you can also bench-test it with a proper AC source.
  • Check wiring and relay: Inspect wiring from the EOC to the fan for burns or loose connections. If the fan and wiring are good, the fan relay on the EOC may be defective; replace the EOC.

Warning: Do not bypass safety thermostats or run the oven with the cooling fan disabled; this can overheat and damage the control.
