Surface Burner Ignition Failure
The gas cooktop burner will not ignite; you hear clicking but no flame, or the flame only lights with a match.

Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, misaligned burner cap, weak or cracked spark electrode, failed spark module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burner knobs. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and avoid open flames.
Steps to check:
- Cap alignment: Remove and reseat the burner cap so it sits flat and centered on the burner base.
- Clean burner: Use a brush or pin to clear debris from burner ports and the small ignition port near the electrode.
- Check spark: Turn the knob to ignite and look for a strong blue spark at the electrode. If the spark is weak or arcing elsewhere, clean and dry the area.
- Electrode condition: Inspect the ceramic insulator for cracks. Replace the surface burner igniter electrode if damaged.
- Spark module: If none of the burners spark, the spark module or power supply may be faulty. Verify 120 VAC to the module and replace the module if it does not output a spark.
Note: Ensure burner parts are completely dry after cleaning before testing ignition.
