Possible Causes
Misadjusted mechanical governor, faulty electronic governor actuator, sticking throttle body, controller frequency setpoint incorrect.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep clear of moving linkages while the engine is running. Only trained personnel should adjust governor settings.
- Step 1 – Measure frequency: Use a frequency meter at the generator output. Note whether the frequency is consistently high or low.
- Step 2 – Inspect governor linkage: With the engine off, move the governor arm and throttle to ensure free movement. Lubricate pivot points and remove obstructions.
- Step 3 – Adjust governor (mechanical): Follow the Kipor service manual to adjust governor spring tension to bring the frequency into spec under no-load and rated load.
- Step 4 – Check electronic actuator: On models with an electronic governor, verify that the actuator receives control signals from the controller. Replace the actuator if it does not respond or moves erratically.
