Possible Causes

Obstruction in tub-to-pump hose, Foreign object jammed in pump, Collapsed or blocked external drain hose, Pump impeller damaged

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer and prepare towels and a container for water.

  • Access pump area: Remove the lower front access panel or rear panel (model dependent) to reach the drain pump and hoses.
  • Check tub-to-pump hose: Loosen the clamp and remove the large black hose from the tub to the pump. Look for socks, coins, or debris lodged inside and remove them.
  • Inspect pump housing: Remove the pump clean-out or inlet hose and check the impeller for obstructions. Ensure the impeller blades are intact and spin freely.
  • Examine drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the pump to the standpipe or sink. Clear any kinks and verify the end is not blocked.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit all hoses securely with clamps, restore power, and run a drain/spin cycle. If E21 persists and the pump is silent or only hums, replace the drain pump.
