Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing rear or bottom panels. Do not work around the motor with power applied.
Inspect motor and wiring:
- Access motor: Remove the rear panel. Locate the drive motor at the bottom rear of the tub with a belt (top-load belt-drive) or direct connection (front-load direct-drive).
- Check harness: Inspect the multi-pin connector at the motor and at the control board. Look for loose pins, corrosion, or broken wires. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Spin drum by hand: The drum should rotate smoothly. Grinding or binding may indicate bearing or mechanical issues that overload the motor.
- Test motor windings: With the motor disconnected and washer unplugged, measure resistance between motor terminals according to the tech sheet. Open or shorted windings indicate a bad motor.
- Check tachometer: Some Crosley motors have a separate tach coil. Measure its resistance (often 100–200 ohms). If open, replace the motor.
If wiring and motor test good: The motor drive circuit on the main control board may be faulty. Replacement of the control board is recommended and is best performed by a qualified technician.
