Possible Causes

Failed motor tachometer sensor, Loose or damaged tach wiring harness, Faulty motor control circuit on main PCB, Demagnetized or damaged motor rotor (direct-drive models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the washer. Do not run spin tests with panels removed unless you are trained and can do so safely.

  • Reset cycle: Cancel the current cycle, unplug for 5 minutes, then try a spin-only cycle with an empty drum.
  • Access motor assembly: Remove the rear panel (front-load) or bottom panel (top-load) to expose the drive motor. On direct-drive Insignia models, the motor is attached directly to the drum shaft.
  • Inspect wiring: Locate the small tachometer connector on the motor. Ensure the harness is firmly connected and wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Check for physical damage: Look for signs of overheating or damage on the motor and control board. Burn marks or melted plastic indicate component failure.
  • Test tach sensor (advanced): Using a multimeter, measure resistance across the tach sensor pins (refer to service data if available). An open circuit suggests a failed sensor or motor assembly.
  • Replace motor assembly: If the tach sensor is integrated into the motor and is faulty, replace the complete Insignia drive motor (or rotor/stator set on direct-drive models).
  • Control board replacement: If motor and wiring test good, the main control board's motor drive circuit may be defective and typically requires replacement by a qualified technician.
