Possible Causes
Degraded Li-ion cells in battery pack, internal battery management system (BMS) fault, battery pack over-discharged from long storage, corroded battery contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Use only the original Rowenta charger. Do not attempt to open the battery pack; risk of fire or electric shock.
- Inspect contacts: Remove the battery and inspect the metal contacts on both the pack and charger. Clean gently with a dry cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasives.
- Try a long recovery charge: Place the battery on the charger and leave it connected for 6–8 hours, even if LEDs flash. Some BMS circuits can recover from mild over-discharge with a prolonged low-current charge.
- Check environment: Charge at room temperature (15–30°C). Extremely cold or hot conditions can prevent proper charging and trigger E5.
- Test another outlet/charger: Use a different wall outlet. If possible, test with another compatible Rowenta charger to rule out a charger fault.
- Do not bypass safety: Never attempt to jump-start or externally charge the battery cells. This is dangerous and voids warranty.
- Replace if needed: If E5 persists and the battery will not accept charge, the pack is likely defective. Replace with a genuine Rowenta Li-ion battery pack specified for your model.
