Possible Causes
Inadequate drying after use, storing the smoker outdoors without a cover, using harsh cleaners that remove the protective coating, standing water in the cabinet.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the smoker is unplugged and cool before maintenance.
- Remove loose rust: Use a non‑metallic scrub pad or fine steel wool to remove surface rust from interior walls and racks.
- Clean and dry: Wipe down with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Run the smoker empty at low heat for 30–60 minutes to drive off moisture.
- Protect surfaces: Lightly coat interior surfaces (excluding heating element and sensor) with a thin layer of cooking oil and run a short seasoning cycle.
- Use a cover: Store the smoker under a Dyna‑Glo cover or in a sheltered area to reduce moisture exposure.
