Possible Causes
Shorted temperature sensor reading low, Stuck heater relay on control board, Miswired heating element directly to line, Failed high-limit thermostat not opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker immediately if it overheats. Do not leave it unattended until the issue is resolved.
Steps:
- Inspect the temperature sensor for damage or loose mounting; replace if physically damaged.
- Test the sensor resistance at room temperature and at a known elevated temperature (e.g., in warm water) to ensure it changes smoothly. Replace if readings are erratic.
- Locate the high-limit thermostat and test for proper operation; if it never opens even at high temperatures, replace it.
- If the heater remains energized even when the smoker is off, the heater relay on the control board may be welded closed and the board must be replaced.
