Possible Causes

Damaged Type 2 connector pins, Broken pilot wire in tethered cable, Faulty CP driver circuit on main PCB, Poor contact between plug and vehicle inlet

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not insert or remove plugs under heavy rain if water can enter the connector.

  • 1. Inspect Type 2 plug and socket: Look closely at the CP (control pilot) pin and other pins for bending, corrosion, or contamination. Clean gently with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  • 2. Check cable strain relief: On tethered units, inspect where the cable enters the Zappi housing. If the cable has been pulled or twisted, internal conductors (including CP) may be broken.
  • 3. Test with another cable: For socketed Zappi, try a different Type 2 cable. If E005 disappears, replace the original cable.
  • 4. Wiggle test (carefully): While the plug is inserted (and with charging disabled in the menu), gently move the plug. If the error appears/disappears with movement, the socket or plug contacts may be worn and need replacement.
  • 5. Firmware and settings: Ensure the Zappi firmware is up to date via the myenergi app or hub, as some CP handling issues are firmware-related.
  • 6. If all external parts are OK: The internal pilot signal driver/receiver on the main PCB may be defective. Board-level repair or replacement is required by a service technician.
