Possible Causes
Dirty or heat-soaked temperature probe, excessive pellet feed rate, wind or ambient heat affecting sensor, control board calibration drift.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Monitor the grill closely when temperatures are higher than expected to prevent grease fires.
- Clean temperature probe: Wipe the internal probe with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove soot and grease.
- Reduce set temperature: Lower the target temperature by 25–50°F and observe whether the grill stabilizes closer to your desired cooking temperature.
- Shield from wind: Move the grill to a more sheltered location or use a windbreak to reduce airflow disturbances.
- Check pellet feed: Ensure the auger is not continuously feeding due to a stuck relay or control fault. If pellets feed constantly even at low setpoints, the control board may need replacement.
