Possible Causes
Weak bake igniter, partially restricted burner ports, miscalibrated oven thermostat or sensor, poor door gasket seal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before removing burner components.
- Verify temperature: Use an oven thermometer placed in the center of the oven to compare actual temperature to the set temperature over at least 20–30 minutes.
- Clean burner ports: Remove the oven bottom and flame spreader to access the bake burner. Clean burner ports with a soft brush or wire to remove debris and ensure even flame distribution.
- Inspect igniter: A weak igniter can cause delayed ignition and low flame. If the igniter glows dull or takes more than 60 seconds to light the burner, replace the bake igniter.
- Check door gasket: Inspect the oven door gasket for gaps, tears, or compression. Replace if damaged to prevent heat loss.
- Calibrate control: Some American Range models allow temperature offset adjustment in the EOC. Refer to the manual to adjust calibration if the oven is consistently off by the same amount.
If large temperature swings or erratic heating persist, the thermostat or sensor circuit may require professional diagnosis.
