Possible Causes
Faulty oven thermostat or temperature sensor, Weak oven igniter causing delayed ignition, Poor flame pattern due to dirty burner, Incorrect air shutter adjustment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before removing burner parts. Allow oven to cool.
- Check with thermometer: Place an oven thermometer in the center of the oven and compare readings to the set temperature over 20–30 minutes.
- Clean burner: Remove the bake burner and clean ports with a soft brush or wire. Ensure all holes are clear for an even flame.
- Inspect flame: Reassemble, restore gas and power, and observe the flame. It should be blue and even. Yellow tips indicate incomplete combustion; adjust the air shutter on the burner if accessible.
- Check sensor/thermostat: On electronic models, test the oven temperature sensor resistance at room temp and at a known elevated temp. Replace if out of spec. On mechanical thermostat models, if calibration is far off and cannot be adjusted via the knob, replace the oven thermostat.
- Replace weak igniter: If the burner takes a long time to light or cycles erratically, replace the bake igniter.
