Possible Causes
Incorrect Wi-Fi password, unsupported 5 GHz-only network, hidden SSID configuration, router security mode incompatible with device.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: This is a network configuration issue, not a hardware failure in most cases.
- Confirm network band: Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Many Kasa thermostats do not support 5 GHz only.
- Check password: Re-enter the Wi-Fi password carefully in the Kasa app. Avoid special characters if your router allows simplifying the password.
- Unhide SSID: Temporarily set your router to broadcast the SSID (network name) instead of hiding it, then try pairing again.
- Security mode: Use WPA2-PSK (AES) if possible. Some older or mixed WPA/WPA2 modes can cause issues.
- Reduce distance: During setup, stand near the thermostat with your phone and ensure the signal strength is good.
- Router reboot: Restart your router and modem, then retry the Kasa pairing process.
