How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the washer before removing the control panel.
F12 indicates a communication failure between boards.
- Access control panel: Remove the top cover and the screws securing the front control fascia. Carefully pull the panel forward.
- Check ribbon cable/harness: Locate the cable between the user interface and main PCB. Ensure it is fully inserted at both ends and not damaged or pinched.
- Inspect for moisture: Look for signs of water ingress around the control panel (from a leaking dispenser or door seal). Dry thoroughly and address any leaks before reassembly.
- Connector cleaning: If there is light corrosion, gently clean contacts with electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry.
- Board substitution: If reseating cables does not resolve F12, either the user interface board or main PCB is faulty. Typically, the main PCB is replaced first, but follow Hotpoint service documentation for your model.
