Possible Causes
Faulty Wi-Fi or Ethernet module in the BMW Wallbox, incorrect network credentials or DHCP failure, weak Wi-Fi signal at the installation location, firmware bug in the communication stack.
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Network troubleshooting does not involve high voltage, but do not open the Wallbox housing.
- Check router and internet: Confirm your home router is online and other devices can access the internet.
- Verify signal strength: If using Wi‑Fi, check the signal strength at the Wallbox location with a smartphone. If weak, consider relocating the router or adding a Wi‑Fi extender.
- Re-enter credentials: Use the BMW Wallbox configuration interface (app or web) to re-enter the Wi‑Fi SSID and password or check the Ethernet connection.
- Reboot both ends: Power-cycle the router and then the Wallbox via its breaker.
If E11 persists and the Wallbox cannot be discovered on the network, the internal communication module may be defective. A BMW-authorized technician can replace the communication board or main control board as required.
