Possible Causes

Failed internal power contactor, Stuck or welded relay contacts detected by self‑test, Faulty control signal from Pod Point main PCB, Supply voltage outside acceptable range preventing contactor pull‑in

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Do not attempt to bypass or manually operate the internal contactor. It switches high current and must only be serviced by a qualified electrician.

  • Step 1 – Power cycle the charger: Turn OFF the charger at the consumer unit or isolator for 2–3 minutes, then turn it back ON. Listen for a relay click when you next plug in the vehicle. If the contactor still does not engage, continue.
  • Step 2 – Try a different vehicle or cable: If you are using a socketed Pod Point, test with another Type 2 cable and, if possible, another EV to rule out vehicle or cable issues.
  • Step 3 – Check Pod Point app / status: Confirm the charger is not paused or limited by a smart schedule or load‑balancing setting in the Pod Point app. Disable any schedule and retry.
  • Step 4 – Electrical checks (electrician only): With power isolated, the electrician can open the unit, inspect the contactor for heat damage, check coil resistance, and verify that the control PCB is sending a 230 V (or specified) signal to the contactor coil when a charge is requested. If the coil is open circuit or the contacts are welded, the contactor must be replaced with the correct Pod Point‑specified model.
  • Step 5 – Replace faulty module: If the PCB is not driving the contactor despite correct pilot signalling, replace the control PCB assembly as per Pod Point service guidance.
