BUZZING ONLY
Audible buzzing or humming from the EVSE when a vehicle is connected, but no LEDs change and charging does not start.
Contactor Coil Undervoltage or Mechanical Binding
CABLE TEMP FAULT
Charging stops unexpectedly, and the STATUS LED indicates a fault after prolonged charging; the cable and handle feel unusually warm.
Overheating Output Cable / Connector
CHARGING
Green POWER LED on, blue CHARGING LED on solid, but vehicle reports 'Not Charging' or state of charge does not increase.
Contactor Not Closing Under Load / False Charging Indication
CHARGING FLASHING
The blue CHARGING LED flashes rapidly while the vehicle is connected, and charging stops or never starts.
Vehicle Communication / Pilot Duty Cycle Error
CONTACTOR WELD
The vehicle continues to draw power or detects voltage even when the EVSE indicates not charging; the contactor is suspected to be welded closed.
Welded Contactor Contacts
GFCI NUISANCE
The EVSE frequently trips its internal ground fault protection shortly after charging starts, especially in damp weather.
Moisture-Induced Ground Fault Sensitivity
NO LEDS
No LEDs are lit on the ClipperCreek EVSE, and the unit appears completely dead even with the breaker ON.
No AC Power / Internal Fuse or Power Supply Failure
PILOT OPEN
The vehicle displays 'Charging Station Error' and the EVSE shows a ready state but never transitions to charging; diagnostics show an open pilot.
Open Pilot Conductor in Output Cable
PILOT SHORT
The EVSE immediately indicates a fault when powered, even with no vehicle connected; diagnostics show a pilot short to ground.
Shorted Pilot Conductor
POWER
Green POWER LED on solid, no other LEDs lit, but vehicle does not begin charging when plugged in.
EVSE Ready But No Pilot Communication
POWER FLASHING
The green POWER LED is blinking instead of solid, there is no CHARGING LED, and the unit does not enter a ready state.
AC Input Power Instability
RELAY CLICKING
Rapid clicking from inside the EVSE when the vehicle is plugged in, LEDs flicker, and charging does not stabilize.
Control Relay Chatter Due to Unstable Pilot Signal or Power Supply
STATUS DIM
LED indicators are very dim or flickering, but the EVSE still partially functions.
Low-Voltage Power Supply Degradation
STATUS FLASH 1
STATUS LED flashing 1 time repeatedly (1-blink pattern) on ClipperCreek HCS series, charging does not start.
Ground Fault Detected (GFCI Trip)
STATUS FLASH 2
STATUS LED flashing 2 times repeatedly (2-blink pattern), unit will not charge.
Pilot Signal Fault / EVSE Self-Test Failure
STATUS FLASH 3
STATUS LED flashing 3 times repeatedly (3-blink pattern), EVSE does not energize output.
Stuck Relay / Contactor Welded or Feedback Fault
STATUS FLASH 4
The STATUS LED flashes 4 times repeatedly (4-blink pattern), and the unit will not charge any vehicle.
Ground Continuity / Equipment Ground Fault
STATUS FLASH 5
The STATUS LED flashes 5 times repeatedly (5-blink pattern), and the EVSE refuses to start charging.
Over-Temperature Shutdown
STATUS FLASH 6
The STATUS LED flashes 6 times repeatedly (6-blink pattern), and there is no charging output.
Input Voltage Out of Range
STATUS FLASH 7
The STATUS LED flashes 7 times repeatedly (7-blink pattern), and the EVSE will not initiate charging.
Stuck Proximity / Latch Switch Fault
STATUS FLASH 8
The STATUS LED flashes 8 times repeatedly (8-blink pattern), and the EVSE remains in a fault state.
Internal Control Board Failure
STATUS FLASH 9
The STATUS LED flashes 9 times repeatedly (9-blink pattern), and the EVSE does not operate.
Memory / Configuration Error
Symptom
EVSE cable jacket is cracked, stiff, or splitting, especially in cold weather.
Aged or UV-Damaged Output Cable
Symptom
EVSE emits a high-pitched whining noise during charging, louder than when new.
Magnetostriction or Switching Noise from Power Components
Symptom
EVSE intermittently stops charging and then resumes without user input; vehicle logs multiple start/stop events.
Intermittent Pilot or Power Interruption
Symptom
EVSE mounting bracket or enclosure is loose on the wall or post; unit moves significantly when plugging/unplugging.
Mechanical Mounting Failure
Symptom
EVSE trips the upstream circuit breaker immediately or within a few seconds of starting a charge.
Short Circuit or Overcurrent on Input
Symptom
EVSE works normally at lower ambient temperatures but fails to start or quickly faults on very cold days.
Temperature-Sensitive Component Failure (Cold)
Symptom
EVSE works normally at moderate temperatures but faults or shuts down on very hot days, even at rated load.
Temperature-Sensitive Component Failure (Hot)
Symptom
J1772 connector will not latch securely into the vehicle inlet or frequently pops out during charging.
Mechanical Wear or Damage to Connector Latch
Symptom
Noticeable burning smell from EVSE during or after charging, even though it may still function.
Overheated Component or Insulation Breakdown
Symptom
The EVSE enclosure becomes very hot to the touch during normal charging, even in moderate ambient temperatures.
Excessive Internal Heating
Symptom
The EVSE will not start charging; the vehicle displays 'Check Charging Equipment' but no specific error code is shown on the EVSE.
General EVSE-to-Vehicle Communication Failure
Symptom
Upstream GFCI or AFCI breaker trips when EVSE is used, even though the EVSE has its own internal GFCI.
Incompatibility with Upstream Protective Device
Symptom
Water or condensation is visible inside the EVSE enclosure window or around the cable entry; intermittent faults occur during or after rain.
Enclosure Water Ingress
